Meet Tanya Mavani
Tanya is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) offering in-person counselling in Thunder Bay and virtual therapy across Ontario. She provides a warm, practical, and inclusive, heritage-honouring space where clients can feel understood, supported, and equipped to create meaningful change.
With a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, Tanya works with adults navigating anxiety, stress, depression, life transitions, relationship challenges, insomnia, substance use concerns, and women’s issues. She also has a special interest in supporting immigrants, newcomers, and individuals adjusting to cultural change, identity shifts, or the pressures of starting over in a new environment. She is particularly passionate about helping newcomers navigate the complex emotional toll of infertility, recognizing how isolation and cultural displacement can amplify the challenges of building a family.
Tanya offers support for concerns such as self-worth, boundaries, burnout, people-pleasing, relationship patterns, life transitions, reproductive and postpartum emotional well-being, and the unique pressures many women experience personally, professionally, and within family roles.
Tanya’s therapeutic style is collaborative, grounded, and results-oriented. She believes therapy should feel helpful, not vague or passive. Clients often appreciate her balance of compassion and structure, as well as her ability to translate insight into practical next steps.
Her work draws from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness-based strategies, and trauma-informed care. Tanya tailors treatment to each person’s needs, strengths, and goals.
In addition to general psychotherapy, Tanya offers focused support for sleep difficulties and chronic insomnia using CBT-I (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia), as well as counselling for addiction, relapse prevention, and behaviour change.
Whether you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or simply ready for something to shift, Tanya offers a supportive space to help you move forward with clarity and confidence.
